5 Ways to Use Twitter to Promote Your Next Event

In March I wrote an article titled “Should My Venue Have a Twitter Account?”. It’s been 6 months, and Twitter has seen the death of Michael Jackson, Kanye West’s “jackass” moment, and a slew of other headlines that nearly shut the social media giant down. I hope my question has become rhetorical.
Do you tweet? If so, you’re part of a fast growing trend. EMarketer estimates there were about 6 million U.S. adult Twitter users in 2008, 3.8 percent of U.S. adult Internet users. Twitter users in the U.S. are projected to grow to 18.1 million by 2010, representing 10.8 percent of U.S. adult Internet users. Surprisingly, Twitter users tend to be older than traditional Internet early adopters; 45 to 54 year olds, the highest-indexing age group, are 36 percent more likely than average to visit Twitter, according to comScore.
Turn Subscribers into Promoters

When we all first got into the Social site scene, we realized that it was an easy opportunity for us to grow and grow our lists. Subscribers, Followers and Friends… the more the better! But I ask that you consider this:
- If someone subscribes to your account/feed, does that mean they read or visit it religiously?
- On Twitter, unless you tweet at the same moment that your follower is reading, they may miss your message.
- How many times have you become a Facebook fan or Group Subscriber without ever returning back to that page?

Promoters and Marketers – Avoid Poisoning Your Marketing Channels

An acquaintance of mine recently came across a list of over 10,000 emails from a nightclub he used to work for. He was looking to sell the list to any buyer. Never a good sign.
You might be able to guess what happened next. He ended up selling the list to another nightclub. By now, who knows how many people have this list. Let me tell you what happens when you start to send emails to purchased lists: YOU GET BANNED. As a result, your e-mail service provider will detect a large number of complaints and unsubscribe e-mail addresses and will refuse to send the e-mails.

The Nightclub Face on Facebook

At the very core of its functionality and the origin of its birth, Facebook is about connecting a face with a name. When launching on Facebook, venues have the unique opportunity to connect with and introduce their audiences to the face of their brand or company. A nightclub, bar, lounge, or restaurant Facebook page can support a variety of goals, including staff recruitment and retention of employees, audience engagement, morale building, e-commerce, branding, and awareness. But, determining how to best represent your venue on Facebook remains a challenge to those charged with the task.
Should my venue have a Twitter account?

I’ll be the first to admit I’m not making the most out of Twitter. I’m a novice at best. I’m okay with that, because in our business it’s just as important to understand the service as it is to put it to prolific use.
5 Ways to Use Facebook and MySpace to Attract Clientele

The challenge of all new media is to not use them like the old media. With social media (Facebook, MySpace, YouTube), we are moving to an era of use. When we first started using social media to promote events, we simply posted events and hoped the word would spread, taking advantage of the number of visitors to sites like MySpace and Facebook. Then there was the “customize your MySpace” page era which was integrating a company presence into a site and a community. The companies taking such great advantage of MySpace right now are the best examples (Mansion, Prive Las Vegas).
